To Theme or Not To Theme?

Fall formal is approaching fast, and with it has come an air of mystery.

The Sarah Lawrence Activities Council (SLAC) sent an email out to students on Oct. 19 that, at first sight, may have looked like a poem out of the Cliffhanger. It read, “save the date. formal. 10.28 9pm. the tent. see you there.”

The email might have provided the bare necessities for the Formal-goers of Sarah Lawrence College, but it left out a major piece of information - this year’s theme. According to Sydney Thompson, one of SLAC’s  leaders, this was exactly their intention.

“We're going for an air of ambiguity around formal this year. It's a concept formal. It's a mystery. Nobody is too cool for it,” Thompson said in an email.

Posters have popped up around campus presenting a list of themes - not any one of them is the theme, and not all of them constitute one theme. The “theme” of the year is to bring your own - and whatever that means to you will become part of the night’s theme.

SLAC denied an interview request, hoping to keep the event as open as possible. They argue that an interview would give too much information away. However, Thompson concluded her email with an enticing promise: “That's all we've got for you - but I swear it will be rad!”
